I'd never photographed a horse before until I came across this beautiful girl and I was quite pleased with how it turned out. Her coat looked a bit unusual to me and she had such soulful eyes, I chose her as my subject out of several mares. There is a big caravan park beside the field she lives in, so the horses get visitors every day and they've become very comfortable around people; most of them came right up to the fence to say hello when I arrived. My subject even held perfectly still and posed for me when I lifted my camera.

I was gutted to see that although she looks so pretty, the damn sky is pure white. Now, the weather was majorly overcast that day and there honestly was very little colour to the sky; it appears completely blown-out but it isn't all my doing. If the sky had been blue, I'd have been so much happier with the shot but as it is, the beautiful horse makes the shot good enough for me. I don't expect this to rank remotely high, especially not with that damned sky but I simply wanted to share her.

Editing included a crop and resize, then cloning out one small imperfection.

To me, the extra push on color works well on the horse. But, it makes the grass look unnatural. Or maybe it's because I live in the desert I don't know what grass looks like? It's possible!
