As you can see in the top left corner is the north star that is why star rotation is minimal centered around the north star. The reason obviously because it is over the north pole so rotation is minimized vs the other stars which are in essence orbiting the north star (not in space just in picture)

Very interesting observation and well captured, your five-minute exposure was well calculated. I haven't used any longer exposures for my night sky images but am tempted to try some. Have to borrow a cable release.

thanks.. ya i have always found star trails very neat to photograph... problem is you need a really long exposure time
