 First off, the original concept of this overlay is completely owed to messerschmitt, whose portfolio should be on everyone's watch list.

messerschmitt's recent work inspired me to try my own stab at it. I painted on a small canvas, photographed it, and added it as a texture overlay (multiply this time, I think) on this sunrise beach scene. Various and sundry layers to mask out or in a bit of sharpening here, a bit of lightening there, some selective levels, until I had something I thought looked nice.

I'm enjoying playing around with this, and again many thanks to messerschmitt for the inspiration.

As a painter I find this a little jarring because the thread of the canvas is very big. This canvas would be about 5x7 or 5x9, which makes the sharp parts hard to imagine as actual paint.
