I think the shot has merit. I like the soft focus. Too bad no one else likes soft focus, see, on DPc, unless it's perfectly SHARP, everyone would give you a bad score.

as a quick review to those who didn't catch the numerous definitions posted in the forums, GREED is wanting/taking more that you need while GLUTTONY is actually eating it all-- as a few of you pointed out, the young lady is too small to be a glutton, but she certainly has a large helping in front of her --- could she be greedy? I thought so - too bad (for me) you didn't, too

anyway, this was taken in some patio seating at a Little Tokyo restaurant in downtown LA, where i went to try to get some shots of the massive homeless community -- i was going to try to involve a sloth/envy/pride theme - turns out that i could have got greed had i proceeded, as most of my intended subjects wanted compensation in order for me to depart with my equipment intact -- too difficult to compose in that situation, so i chose a more candid subject (good hunting for the next 'candid' challenge)

Spider, I couldn't read thru all of this. I got thru the thought about a white woman eating salad not being gluttonous and I just lost all concentration. You need to improve on your web saving-compression ratio.

The soft focus is nice. -stephan

I rated it a 6 but for the focus.

The blurring looks pretty cool, it softens the picture nicely, but I would have framed it vertically (480X640), the left edge in the middle of the curve of her shoulder (and that big salad thing) just inside where the background darkens, and the right edge through the middle of her glass of water. This would focus on her a lot more, cutting away distracting background details like the other woman, while still keeping enough of every dish to clearly convey the quantity of food, and keeping that cool reflection of the post in the window. Try it with your hands!

She is not fat enough to wish all that to be all hers.

If this was done on purpose I'm sorry.

I'm getting very hungry. The focus is a little soft but maybe your meant to do that. Good exposure and composition.

Nice

Generally speaking, ?soft? photos have not rated well with the voters here on DPChallenge. I sincerely hope the voters give this on the credit it deserves. This is one of the most ideal examples of a well shot capture with an excellent utilization of a soft focus. A beautiful subject, fabulous color ? and it meets the challenge too. Good luck with this one I hope you do well ? Gotcha 8

Its just someone eating, and its a salad to boot, hardly gluttony.

meets the challenge, but the photo itself is not interesting or significant in any way. Try to find a more eventful subject, or if using a rather mudane subject, shoot it in a creative way to make it more interesting and draw the viewer in. 2

not with a skinny girl.

Nice looking lady but terrible picture.
10/14/2002 05:31:00 PM
a little blurred?
10/14/2002 04:26:00 PM
Which is all yours - the girl or the food? Nice soft light in this shot.
10/14/2002 12:05:00 PM
Little bit fuzzy... dont you think so?
10/14/2002 09:24:00 AM
the subject is far too skinny to be called greedy or gluttinous.. di you use a soft effect lens on this one??
10/14/2002 05:00:00 AM
Soft filter on this shot? It's very nice and the colors are wonderful. Very good shot. Good luck. Justine

I don't like how everything has a glow coming off it.

I'm not sure that a healthy, relatively slender woman sharnig an Asian meal is a sign of gluttony, but then it's hard to see which plate she has plucked a bite from. I like the composition and colour and the soft focus sheen. Gluttony, if that is what you were going for, would have been better reflected by an open mouth, more action, and a sense/hint of greed. Here, it almost looks like she is being reflective, and not at all passionate about her food.

This is one beautiful photograph. 8 Jak
