This was a lot of fun to shoot!
I decided not to go with the more cliche title of 'Disco Duck', but this photo is a tribute to Saturday Night Fever. Just imagine the Bee Gees playing in the background. ;)
There was quite a bit involved to get this to look good in basic editting.. I would have to do a 'How'd They Do That?' to really do it justice, but here's the quick version:
- A small flashlight pointing up inside a plastic bin
- A piece of cardboard with the shape of the 'dance floor' cut out, on top of the bin
- A piece of glass over top of the cardboard
- The 'dance floor' on top of the glass
- The 'dance floor' is made up of black strips of construction paper, in a grid, with cut up strips of coloured duotangs behind them
- The mirror ball is suspended from a mic stand
- 20 second exposure, and the mirror ball and dancer is 'painted' with a flashlight, and a homemade snoot made from a hollow curtain rod.
Editting is basic. Colour levels, some shadow/highlights, UM, resize, save for web. I'm not even sure if I cropped it; this was pretty close to how it came out of the camera.
I really like this, so I expect that it's going to tank! :D |
