Have to say I like this picture although I am not sure if I have done the best I could with it. No crop but a lot of playing with the colour to get the right balance of light and dark (lost the channel mixer in the Gimp), and I did like the weird colour versions I came up with but maybe they were too far out, USM, and I cannot remember if I did the denoising in the Gimp on this one, desaturation, resize, sharpen. There are flies on his face - I might have tried to smudge them but I didn't. My biggest concern is that this is way too pale, lacking in both white and black, but I liked the ghostly (for want of a better word) effect.

This is Max, one of 2 Clydesdales who live somewhere between me and my village. They were in one of their fields seeking shade at lunchtime under a very scrubby stand of willow. I got right up close without stepping in any presents.

I've always loved this, Timothy. It was one of the first images I favourited, and I've just discovered to my surprise, that I never left a comment on it.

I really love the shadows on the horse. But with advanced editing I would have blurred the background foliage. There's a lot of details in those areas that compete with the beauty of the animal.

Wow, by the comments, this is a "like it- don't like it" kind of image, no middle ground. I'm in the like it pile. Just a little more head on would have helped a lot with getting a better score I would think, but with animals we get only what they, the animals, will offer us.

I like the effect. I find it ethereal. I gave this an 8.

Beautiful and subtle play of greys and light, looks like a charcoal drawing. This is why I try to go through shots at least twice when voting ... put this in the six bucket originally, now back for a second look to bump you to an 8, and I may be back again. Ah heck, make it a 10. Don't see how dappled light gets much better than this. Good luck!

Nice idea, but looks a little more washed out than desaturated. Kinda grainy.

I wish it had more contrast, but I can see where you might have wanted the shadows so light.

An interesting effect but the composition is lacking

Contrast seems really low and the whole image appears both soft and oversharpened at the same time. I think you were possibly trying to achieve a dreamlike effect and it came close, but I'm afraid it quite doesn't work for me.
