This is my father-in-law welding.

I told him to make the most sparks that he possibly could...so he went back into the garage and grabbed another rod....smacked it down on the rotor and I got the shot. In hindsight I should have shot this at a smaller aperature and probably could have still gone with 1/8000 shutter speed.

By far, my favorite part of the image is the "lightning effect"...probably not possible to caputure without such a fast shutter speed.

I really like this industrial shot. Appears to be a gear your Dad is woking on. I agree with Imagineer's comments on the crop which would be fun to see if you repost. Great image.

You can really feel the heat here, and the frozen sparks have so much visual interest. Congrats on 5th place and your personal best, this is such a solid shot.

Nice action - could do with being straightened.

I like the little tendrils of light after the sparks. It would perhaps be more involving if we were closer to the thing being welded so that we could identify it, as much of the lower portion of your frame is irrelevant. A rectangular crop mid way through the shot would make it stronger in my view.
