 Trier is mostly "new" given the destruction from WWII, but the style of building reflects what was there at the time. A few buildings do remain. This view is from the Porta Nigra, looking into the city (although there's a whole lot of city outside the gate these days, too.)

I was in Trier when I was 16 (1976 long story). My Onkle Andre made a proper French dinner that lasted forever! ...included were snails ;P ...but I ate them because I didn't want to bring shame to the family name.
