Challenge: Anything But Landscape (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Location: sky
Date: Jul 11, 2008
Galleries: Nature, Panoramic
Date Uploaded: Jul 11, 2008

Photo of the blue sky above our home in Cannon Beach early afternoon on July 11th. For this "Anything by Landscape" challenge, I decided to use a non-"landscape" format, employing the maximum of 160x720 portrait formatting for the crop to give that added sense of visual reach into the heights of the sky above. I'm guessing nearly half of the entries into this challenge will be in landscape formatting. Maybe you are one of the good folks in DPC-land who expect photos to conform to a certain shape/image and can't imagine that some on DPC don't worry too much about the score of an image, but enjoy entering photos which help people look at life just a bit differently, with another set of eyes. So I invite you with this entry to take a look up into the big blue sky, as well as into natural world all around them, and maybe once again you'll recognize the thin veil of atmosphere above our heads as a sheer blue gift of grace.

By the way, I'm predicting a 4.0 or lower.

Considering brown is normally a color of landscapes I'd find it amusing to place last for this portrait slice of nothin' but blue sky.

"Place: 247 out of 246" How is that possible? I guess you really are the master of the brown ribbon...

I didn't give this enough thought during the voting, but right before I read your description, it all clicked for me:

not land = sky

not landscape = portrait

Nice conceptual piece.

I'm not sure this deserved the brown. I don't see any sensor dust.

:P

History may judge this as avant guarde. But most avant guarde photographers are dead before they are recognized.

You absolutely met the challenge, but this photo shows more of a desire to be different and push the envelope rather than submit a good and winning photograph
