her teeth look a little funny, and her face is pretty red, thinking this may have fared better in black and white,

A couple of things you should notice on here
1) The halo around her, you should avoid that.
2) The harsh lighting
3) The lack fo smoothness of the skin
4) The lack of eye contact

However I like how you have portrait her with the Yankees cap. It shows that she can keep her customs and still admire US customs. (at least thats what I got)
