Taken aboard a small boat 50 feet offshore from where Kilauea's latest flow hits the ocean (that's where the steam is coming from) on the Big Island in Hawaii.

Just a spectacular sight!

Gotta love the image stablization in my big zoom.

To the people who think this wasn't "rural," I wonder how often you see lava flowing through cities?

I love the contrasts here. The golden orange is so pretty. It's cool (ha) to see all that steam in this photo too.

I didn't vote on this challenge, and you sure have a fascinating photo there!

However, you had a problem with people who didn't consider this "rural", so allow me to quote from Wikipedia to help you understand why those voters might have felt that way:

Quote: "Rural areas (also referred to as "the country," and/or "the countryside") are settled places outside towns and cities. Such areas are distinct from more intensively settled urban and suburban areas, and also from unsettled lands such as the outback, American Old West or wilderness. Inhabitants live in villages, hamlets, on farms and in other isolated houses."

Great finish Jeff - What an amazing place and an awesome capture. Just think you got a 6 with a non-standard landscape - very cool indeed!
