This was taken during a surprise wedding my friend had. He and his wife only told their parents and best friends (me being one of them) about the wedding. Everyone else thought they were showing up for a baby shower. I caught these emotions from some of the guests in the crowd. I can't wait to really get down and edit this photo.

Critique Club Review:

A suprise wedding?? Wow! Oops... This is supposed to be a critique, so off we go.

Color and saturation are excellent, brightness and contrast are excellent as well. Focus is nice and sharp. A shallower depth of field may have helped isolate background distractions better.

By your comments this is really more of a snapshot than a portrait. Though the other side of the problem is that genuine emotions like these would be lost, had you posed this picture. In pictures like these, timing is everything. The girl at the right of the frame could be cropped out, but her disembodied hand with the drink would then be an even larger distraction that it is. The person in the plaid shirt needs cropping as well as style lessons.

This has the bones of a really good picture. If you are handy with photoshop, then it can be a picture that will be treasured over the years.

Hard to fit this into a "portrait" per say, as it's a candid moment really.
Emotional, yes. Important to those pictured.

She looks drunk. Would be a better image with just the girl in the green.

Too bad the girl with the drink has her hand there. It makes the one who's crying look like she's a little bit drunk. I might have cropped out the plaid shirt on the left, also. Still, you grab a shot when you can.

Good shot but the other people are a little distracting.

Emotional or slightly inebriated? I guess they go hand in hand -- no pun intended. I'm sure this comment was helpful.

this was a great moment to capture, I would have given a 10 if it was cropped tighter, just because the facial expressions are priceless here and they don't deserve to me distracted by arms, drinks and a bad shirt to the left....I give this shot an 7 because the emotional contrast was captured SO WELL!!!

Great capture of an emotional moment. I think a tighter crop would make the image stronger.

great candid, the arm really hurts the image. I'm sure you will clone it out for a print. 6
