Challenge: Free Study 2008-05 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon
Location: Noden Reed Park, Windsor Locks CT
Date: May 31, 2008
Aperture: f/4.0
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/60 sec
Galleries: Landscape, High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Date Uploaded: May 31, 2008

This is my first attempt at HDR. I used three images, so there were 3 different shutter speeds. I just put the middle exposure down so there was something there.

I ran to the park by my house as soon as I got home to shoot a rainbow because a heavy thunderstorm came through. I wanted a shot with the lightning and the rainbow, but the storm quickly moved off, causing the rainbow to fade. However, I was left with a nice sunset.

Photshop was merge to HDR, levels, curves, selective color (adjustments on the green, red, and yellow channels), crop, resize, dodge the grass, clone out a yellow patch of grass, sharpen, save for web.

I think thats it. Luckily, May has 31 days. Not what I thought yesterday...

I really like this photo a lot. I like how the path leads the viewer's eye through the picture. Something that may have helped to make it better is cropping out the top 1/4 of the sky (the part that's just gray) so that the sky has more overall color. If you're using Photoshop CS3, adding a little fill light (in raw) to the foreground may also help the picture pop a little more.

this is good, but a little adjustment with levels and curves would have made this really POP...7
