|Not really much to say about this one, conceptually. Mainly a purely aesthetic project, exploring textures and tones of the water; the relationship of the bright, almost shadowless, certainly high-key paper boat with clean lines and flat sides to the rough, greeny-brown, organic water textured in an inconsistent yet smooth way. Shot at the tail end of golden hour so the sunlight was only just still hitting the trees in the background, which give the water its particular sheen. A lot of not-entirely satisfactory outtakes on this one, and even as i'm typing this i've not entirely decided which shot to submit. All of them suffer from slightly blown-out highlights on the boats, but this is unavoidable considering what a high-contrast scene this was; it was them or the water, and the water in my opinion was more interesting.
Editing was pretty much the same on all versions: crop, clone out dust specks and bits of rubbish on the water, raise gamma and drop bottom end of the contrast curve to balance it out, selectively pull back the contrast on the boats themselves to avoid blown out highlights.
