You can never have too many bikes. :-) On the left is the Trek 7700FX, my first "real" bike since I was a kid. It's first big adventure was the MS 150, a two day bike ride from San Antonio to Corpus Christi. I was a bit amazed that I continued to ride after that.
The middle bike is a Swiss (H&M) street cruiser kinda thing. It's the newest member of the family, and is a great bike for wandering about town. I've taken it on the train to Wiesbaden to just cruise and see the sights, then ride home (it's more downhill than uphill on the way home.) It's a seven speed with the gearing in the rear hub, and very well designed for Europe with fenders, front-wheel generated lights, and a nifty bell. It sucks for going up or down hills, though - it's heavy, but doesn't coast well because of the rear-hub gearing mechanism. Great for flats, though.
The third is my road bike and the only one I could find that fits and still has 700 mm wheels. It has over 4000 miles on it and was my bike of choice for most riding in Texas. Not quite as useful here, as many of the paths have long unpaved sections here and there. I will say though, that Germans are WAY more considerate of bikes on the road than Texans are. |
