That's some awesome bokeh you have going on there! This works great in B&W and the oversharpening just gives this a 3D effect.

I like the sudden transition between the sharpness of the rose and the way OOF of the background. Almost makes it seem like the rose is floating in mid-air.

I don't see it as oversharpened at all, by the way. I love the way the DOF has caused the roses to float on a bed of light. Regarding the overly blown spot at the top - clone in some background from elsewhere in the shot if you'd like to tone that down a bit.

Appears to be a wide open aperture on your zeiss 1.4 - a pretty dof, but I could see that it could be softer more natural without your imposition of an extreme sharpen. As mentioned, the unincorporated exposed white at the top is very evident in otherwise good tone.

This has a "beauty amongst the choas" theme with the rose surrounded by a background that reminds me of storm clouds. Great lighting and tones!

Couldn't tell what this was from the thumb. I love the texture in the background - almost looks like watercolour. And the full bloom over the dead one is a neat contrast. I like the way the background goes from light to dark - only thing I'd change is to crop out the really bright spot at the top of this shot - I find it distracting.
