To be honest the first thing I notice is the lighting, it's lacking a punch that would add a lot. Another thing I noticed is that my eye doesn't know where to go, is the main subject the thing he is making or is it him? One thing that would be cool on this would be to have a shallower DOF, so that only the guy is in focus, to add more emphasis to him being the main subject. Another thing would be to come from a different angle, so that you can see more of the shaper. I like the environmental portrait that it is, as noted by Erica.

I would have liked to see the man a little more in focus. Its a great environmental portrait, but I think that the emphasis needs to be on the man, and it also seems like there is a little blur motion in his hand.

If you had a speed light (that you can detach) you could have lit the man from the side (behind the figure he is working on) for a more dramatic effect.

I think the composition is good because the shape of the figure leads right to the man so it draws your eye in.
