I've been looking at your portfolio and you have an excellent eye.
Regarding the blown out portion of the photo... I feel in general, yes, one should avoid that. However, In this image, which is so real and gritty, it does not detract or take away from the excellence of the portrait.
If you notice, there's a diagonal line from the top right to the bottom left, and the man is in that line. So the eye does not go to the blown out window (unless one doesn't have an eye at all), but instead right to the face.
My point for this long post - some rules are meant to be broken, and some broken rules add to the character and quality of the photo, as in this case. I gave it an 8. |

| For what is clearly casual street photography, you snagged a great picture with lots of detail and character. He has that bored look from a long train ride. |

| It's a good portrait and a good expression, but the attention is easily drawn to the blown left corner and then out of the image. |
