Challenge: Free Study 2008-04 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Calgary Bay, Isle of Mull
Date: Apr 9, 2008
Aperture: F16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Apr 29, 2008

This beach quickly became one of my all time favourite places when I was finally able to walk on it at the start of April. I can't wait till October when we return to Mull and I get to, hopefully, spend a little more time here.

Thanks to Ecce Signum for another lovely holiday XxX

This has been my first attempt at fully editing a shot without following some sort of tutorial or just doing 'basic stuff' so I don't mess it up!! All I have done to the shot is...

Convert from RAW
Dodge and Burn the sky and a little of the sea. Also burnt a little of the darker sand and footprints to bring out more detail.
Hue/Saturation
Contrast
Resize
Sharpen

Prediction? These days I have no idea why DPC'ers vote the way they do so have no idea what this will achieve :o(

Great shot T! and the 'subject' really makes this shot (he is so handsome). The idea of the footprints was a great idea ;)

You know, now that I look at it a bit longer, I do recognize Andi. When voting in the challenge, I thought the scene looked familiar but couldn't quite put my finger on it. And I really liked this one when voting (still do, of course). Very good job with the editing!

Sweet! I like the huge DOF for this image, and the changes from sand to sea to sky. I am happy that you got the opportunity to go to the beach to get this shot.

The footprints are a nice touch leading one's eyes inward. What a gorgeous place. Nice colors, tones and composition!

I love the tension with sand. It leads the eye to the person standing. Great work

I love the leading lines in this, also the title makes you look for the storm, so your eyes go over the entire image, well planned and executed!

pity the sand has been oversharpened

Great image. I like the colors and composition and how the footprints lead toward the person. A little bit of noise, but still a nice shot.

nicely done, the person gives extra umph to the shot, nice colours, and crisp feel to it
