 This was taken at the old cemetary in Manassa. Four of the pictures I took for the Paranormal Challenge turned out pretty well - it was very hard to decide which one to enter. Hope I made the right choice! There was one that I would have liked to enter in the Negative Image Challenge as well - decided to go with Paranormal as there were so many fewer entries.

To get the ghost effect in the picture I set up my camera on a tripod with the very smallest aperture (32) and set the shutter speed to Bulb and the ISO to 100. After my husband posed by the tombstone I focused, clicked the shutter and held it down, counted to one then placed a piece of black foam board over the lens while still holding the shutter. Then after my husband moved away, I took the foam board away and counted to two and then put the foam board over the lens again and let go of the shutter.

We did a lot of these just before and after the sun went down. It was hard not to overexpose.

Editing in PS CS2: Crop; levels, curves; selective color; hue/sat - reduce overall saturation; resize; smart sharpen; save for web.

I love the color. It gives a sense of bleakness and lifelessness. I also really like how the composition draws my eye right toward the ghostly image. It's eerie, yet at the same time sad. Very cool!
