 68 plus herons are nesting by my house at the moment, the male goes to get the branches and then returns them to the females to build their nest, there are 30-40 nests being built in about 10 trees, it is amazing to watch these pre-historic birds, which I did for about 2-3 hours for a couple days while shooting 600-700 shots.

The heron always has such a determined look in its eye, it's hard to imagine it doing something as domestic as nest-building, but that is what birds do. and you have caught this one very well indeed. The trailing legs and the gimlet eyes are characteristic.

Really excellent shot. I live in Victoria where there is a huge rookery and I haven't been able to capture anything even remotely like this. Good luck!
