The shadow came out like a petroglyph to me. The sky was dark blue and with polarizer exaggerated that effect. Using selective color underneath the gradient map adjustment, I was able to darken the sky to nearly black. :)

Couple of neat things about this one - the tree looks as though it's raising its arm to the rock, or the shadow, I haven't decided which. And the black is amazingly deep, yet you've kept all the detail in the tree and the rock. Shows a very good understanding of tools both during exposure and afterwards.

Very Cool. Yea, I like converting polarized sky to BW - the blue channel makes for a very stark image.
