Duplicated layer, curves using Grandfather's shirt for white balance. Create new layer above, filled with gradient of the lower wall colours. Added layer mask and inverted it. Painted in the wall covering the painting. Lightened some of the shadows behind Grandmother as they didn't look right without the painting.
New layer above filled with 50% grey, overlay mode. Render-lighting effects-2 o'clock spotlight. Added a mask and brushed it off till it looked right. Curves layer to get the light I wanted.
Could have done better with the isolation of Grandmother's hair, but just wanted to show how I thought it would look good.
I didn't alter her eyes as they're who she is (IMO)
