It may be the close crop or the angle, but I can't get away from seeing this as two pictures photoshopped together. The mother and son don't appear to be together but the mother looks pasted onto a picture of the son. Dark shots are also risky since many people don't have calibrated monitors and may not be seeing the low levels. |

I'm not keen on the black bands at the top on bottom of the frame. Removing them and having a wider aspect ratio would give it a more "wide screen cinema" feel which would suit the subject well. |

It looks like a very emotional photograph but the lighting is actually hindering emotion for me. A well lighted scene would have really helped it alot. Very nice concept though. |

The crop is a little awkward as it just clips his chin and his ear. |
