 I don't know what this bug is, but I only see them on the wild California Poppy flowers that grow by my house.

nice work, I'll have to look at some poppies up my way for these guys. A few little hot spots on the flower but not too distracting. I like it against the dark background.

A superb capture of the guy against the "white" of the poppy (which is really a brilliant orange/red, is it not?) - shows him off very nicely. I suspect you converted this using a red channel in some form? I like the way it rendered the poppy - very good detail.
