My first "studio" style flash lit shot with my new soviet Helios 85mm f/1.5.
This was shot on the move, so unfortunately i didn't have all the utilities of my studio at my disposal. I had to make do with three flashes and a gold reflector for a background. One flash is off to the left facing the camera for the backlighting, the second flash is high up and to the right facing down steeply for the hair light. The third is on camera to trigger the other two.
Unfortunately also i had none of my tripods, stands or supports with me, so had to enlist the assistance of two other helpful girls to hold black cards to flag the flashes off from the camera and parts of the scene, and the camera was hand-held. Lots of sore arms all round.
Initially i had intended to have it as a spray shot, but i quickly realised i couldn't keep the background and have the spray visible. I did come out with some black background spray alternatives, but they didn't really seem to speak about the colours as much as this shot does. Here's an example:
Generally this one was ok in basic, the contrast tweaked with a custom tone curve and not really anything else done to it except the cloning of a couple of sensor dust spots that manifested as dark blurry splodges on the cheek. I really wish i'd been able to clone out those two bright reflections on the cheek, but of course it's basic editing. All that is fixed for the print version though. |

| Nice warm colors. I would have liked the neck to not be hidden by the hair or perhaps have some of the hair detail in focus. |

| I think this is a fantastic idea, and a captivating photo, but that it would've scored better if the hand/bottle hadn't blurred and had been possibly no shadow on the hair. |
