My mom arrived today from Florida for a 12 day visit. It's her birthday, too.

I wanted to make something brunchy - not too heavy, so I put together a strata. I rarely follow a recipe, but here's the outline:

I used - and you can use whatever - multi-grain baguette slices placed edge to edge in a heavily buttered pyrex dish. The size of the dish will depend on how many people you want to feed.

For this strata I sauteed turkey/basil sausage cut in small chunks. Then I added chopped red and green bell pepper, green onions, salt and pepper. Don't overcook.

This mixture was distributed evenly over the bread. Then I whisked 6 eggs with about a cup of milk along with a bit of salt. Poured the eggs over the bread and other stuff in the dish.

At this point you want to let it sit for at least a few hours so the bread can soak up the eggs. Top with cheese and bake for about an hour at 350F.

You can serve it with salsa, guacamole, or whatever else you want.

These are total snap shots - The quality is not all that, but I had zero time.

This looks delicious! I think it would be the perfect Sunday breakfast. You could make the basic strata the night before and let it sit overnight in the refrigerator before cooking it.

The after shot is making my mouth water. I would have suggested a more neutral background, such as a cutting board the elements of the stove are a bit distracting.

Looks somewhat heavy for breakfast (for me), but presentation is wonderful, and, snap or no snap, it looks delicious.

I have to agree with EstimatedEyes here, this does have that recipe card feel to it (like the free ones you get in the mail trying to get you to order more).

Looks delicious, I'll have to try this on a Saturday morning with the family.

I like the before and after of what it should look like. I'm not a fan of eggs, but this could be good! With some ham and fried potatoes. LOL

I like the presentation of these shots ... yeah, they have that snapshotty feel, but the before and after pics and the big thick white border with the text at the bottom makes it look like a recipe card, where you'd expect to find the recipe on the back.

Looks delish. I have a recipe for french toast that involves a similar technique that we use when there's a crowd over the house. Only we soak it overnight in the fridge with heavy cream or half n half and maple syrup -- not exactly your low cal special. ;>P
