well said! thanks

i want to add that the idea for this shot came to me while i was actually sitting in the upper floor of a train passing by this site, while i was just looking outside and suddenly for only a split second i spotted that exact corridor, from where i took this photo. the next second i had the perspective for this shot in my head. so for me this photo is like a mirror of a memory. sounds weird, but is true...;)

It's already been said but I have to concur that the movement of the train adds a masterful touch. For me the train metaphorically represents life passing by quickly as the building slowly decays.

you have a knack for these abandoned buildings and sepia toning, always a pleasure to view. :)

I also like the contrast of the unmoving building decaying away against the train wooshing by... The paint peeling off the walls adds much to the general feel.

Another great old building shot, you really have these pegged! I love the tone in this and the capture of movement in a stagnate enviroment adds a nice touch, well done, again:)

I'm impressed at how sharp this turned out with a 1/30th second exposure, even though you were using a 20mm lens. Your abandoned building shots are brilliant! The blurred train certainly adds another element of interest.

You are the master of these abandoned buildings Christoph. Capturing some kinetic energy in the shot on top of the warmth of the lighting is a nice twist to this series.

i exposed for the foreground and compensated down by half a step to get enough detail in the wall but avoiding blown outs in the bright background.
i shot M at f6.7 and 1/30" and iso100. i thought 1/30 would be long enough to get the train blurred, but i should of decided for a bit longer exposure (though i did'nt have a tripod so 1/20 would've been longest i could manage handheld...). anyways i tested the exposure and then just had to wait like 10 minutes for the next train to pass by :)

thanks for your feedback deb, really appreciate it!

eta: some of the shots in this series are hdr's from 3 exposures -2/0/+2 put together in photomatix, then processed in cs3 (one simple gradient map for b&w, then another gradient map on soft light mode for contrast and warm toning, and at last, if necessary, curves adjusts; no spot editing was done in any of these images)

it adds an interesting contrast to see the blurred motion out the window.

Cool subject. Great detail. Is that a train zooming by outside the window?
