 I'm not sure what it is, really. Perhaps a seed pod; but the yellow blossoms are there on the same tree will produce seeds...
There was a similar pod on a different branch. It had its top cut off and a little spider was living inside.

Interesting. I agree with cogerox, this looks like an Easter Egg. Perhaps you should have skipped the yellow flower.

Really does look like an Easter Egg, doesn't it? I like the touch of yellow just below as a balance to the browns.
