Challenge: Pattern III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A560
Location: Downtown Portland, Oregon
Date: Mar 19, 2008
Aperture: 2.75
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1

This was taken inside the Multnomah County Circuit Courthouse in Portland, Oregon. The intricate pattern on the individual slots of the radiater grill initially caught my eye. As I was shooting the pictures, I saw another pattern as the entire grill fanned out when viewed at a downward angle, thus discovering two patterns in one object. I didn't have my tripod with me; in retrospect I would have done better using a higher ISO setting.

It's an interesting pattern, but it appears pixelated and unclear. I see lots of evidence of heavy JPEG compression, but your file size does not indicate heavy compression on the final image. It must have been highly compressed somewhere else along the way, though. Save intermediate steps as a TIFF or your image editor's native format in order to avoid compression loss..

Out of focus and looks to be a bit dim like the contrast and color needed to be adjusted.

Good dof choice, forces the eye towards the back/bottom and hints at the infinite. Was there anyway to capture more of the detail? As that is a secondary pattern, it would have been kind of cool. I know that sometimes, these detail pieces fade and the ridges and "patterns" start to lose their definition, so perhaps this is the actual look.

Nice movement and line created which help to move the eye up and down the photo.

IMO this would have been more interesting with either the entire shot in focus, or focus on the top part with the bottom parts blurred out. -4
