This is Sean, the brother of my oldest daughters fiance'. I was messing around with some external lighting positions. Here I am using 0 powered pop-up flash in commander mode and a +1/2 powered SB800 to photo right.

Great portrait with good expression. I like the light coming from the right.

A bit harshish, but not by much - maybe 1/4 power with something to reflect a bit of light on the unlit side? Then again, I have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about - I don't even own an external flash let alone standalone units! :-) From a portraiture standpoint, I like the expression - he makes a good subject. From a lighting standpoint, your submission last week is much softer, nicer.

Not a bad photo for a flash. a bit of bright spots on his nose but other than that pretty good. love the unshaved look..hahaha

He sure looks comfortable in front of the camera, and you've captured it well. I like the relaxed pose and B&W conversion, but would prefer the light to be a bit more even.

I like his expression. You captured good detail, and think it's a very nice portrait. The only thing that detracts, in my opinion, is the shadow of the lamp just to the left of his face.

Nice to see you experimenting with lighting positions! I would love to get to opportunity to do the same at some point =]

Good lighting overall, the only thing spoiling a lil would the dark shadow under his nose and neck... carry on working with the lights I think you are onthe right path to master lighting!

This is good! The lighting is nice, and I love the texture and detail in his face. The black and white processing really adds to the whole appeal of this one too. I can't imagine it being this cool looking in color.

A nice, clean portrait with flattering light. I like that that there is no glare spots on the subject.
