Elizabeth Frye (?)

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

i had to get this one out of my head. i love the colours, though - the sanded blues and reds. ooo, i want to paint again!

these are my parents in korkula, croatia, in october 2004. they both died in 2005, 9 months apart, and this poem was read at both funerals.

What a perfect thing you've done with this. It reflects the words to a tee. It's as though your creative hand has imbued their spirit in the image that we see.

Oh damn. I started reading the poem and immediately burst into tears. For one, it's so very moving in itself. Then, my mom has asked for it to be read at her memorial service - when she dies, which I hope will not be for a while, but it's looming.

And then I read your comment, and it made my heart heavy. Losing parents is one of life's kicks in the gut, as far as I'm concerned. So sorry for your (quite recent) loss, Christian, and thanks for sharing this photo - the memory - with us. The process is excellent and very fitting.

Oh, I just read what Judy said - yes, I was thinking something along those lines: they may not be here, but the color of their memory is still alive, the sparkle in your heart - I love what you've done with the photo and the words.

How wonderful - a tribute that's worthy of showing to the world. It's as if they are in a spectrum of heavenly light.
