 On my hike and I see this, it was really upsetting, I need to return with gloves. But at least the timing was right. Open in PS Raw, levels, brightness to -10, adjust hue/saturation, black and white, crop, resize, usm, add border, save for web.

At least it's nice to see that people are using the garbage can rather than the trail! Probably was knocked over by some wildlife.. those filthy animals! ;-)
About the photo, I think your coposition is well-done, but I'm not sure the black and white treatment adds anything to it. Whatever you used to desaturate it kinda flatteneds everything out. It needs some contrast or channel-mixing or something to give it some depth (I am not that experienced with b&w processing, so I'm not sure really what tools are the best). That said, I think it would have been nice to try it in colour as well.

That's sad how the garbage can is just laying on it's side and no one's helping to stop and pick it up.

Shows pollution well with all that rubbish tipped over but I think you may need a little curves/levels adjustment.

The crop seeems to be slightly too tight.. maybe going backwards and getting more of the location or leaning in further would have helped..
