Quick shot after I got home from work. Don't really like it all that much, but at least I'm keeping up with the challenge. I thought a coffee bean would make a good subject for this sleep-deprived daylight savings time day. ;>P

ETA: The focus is weird. It just doesn't seem to match up with the DOF. The cork (it was sitting on a drink coaster) is focused near the front of the bean and further back where the bean itself is in focus, yet that middle part of the bean is not. Could be camera shake (it was mounted on my gorillapod, which was just sitting on the table, or perhaps bean shake.

The DOF is very interesting here, unusual. B/W is a good choice here.

mmmmm coffeeeee... The DOF is very narrow, but as far as matching up, it seems to me like the focal plane cuts through the bean at the same angle the camera must have been on for the shot. I think the trick on the eyes is just because it's harder to conceptualize that plane on a steep angle rather than perpendicular. Just thinking about the mystery aloud :)

Yes, what you said in your notes. It's like a trick for the eyes - where's the focus? In front? In back? However, I love the composition and the giant coffee bean - great idea.

I like it, it's so "just a coffee bean". Dof is strange indeed, perhaps too much coffee in the photo.

Focus could have been more toward the front.

The DOF is good - just would have tried to focus on the front of the bean
