I ran into Marilyn the other day and she very graciously let me snap a couple of photos. I processed this photo in color first and gave a copy to Ms Monroe and then converted to B&W

B&W Conversion
Hue/Sat-Color desat
Levels layer->luminosity between original layer and Hue/sat. Adjusted the color levels for the B&W tones I wanted.
Duplicated original layer and softened the skin and painted that into the original layer.
Clone tool to cut down on the glare caused by sweat and flash.

I like how the flash highlights her eyes, smile, and for some reason, the earring lol.

Very nice close up portrait. I also don't mind the highlights in her hair.

Very sharp! What a great close-up. You did a wonderful job editing it to look perfect. She must have been thrilled to have such a nice portrait of her self and she looks great for her age! LOL!

I saw the thumb and thought "she died, didn't she?" This Marilyn is very pretty and has quite the winning smile. I think you composed this shot very well. Nice work with the glare, and yes, the hair is a bit blown in places but really not that noticeable because her eyes and her smile keep your attention.

I think the blown out harsh flash on the hair adds to the old film era feel with the bright flash bulbs always going off around her. Great smile and the lighting on the face looks nice.

I don't see anything really blown out by the flash. In fact, I think the flash highlights in her hair help to create a little more depth to the picture. It also separates her from the background. I like it.

:) I think she's prettier than Marilyn. Her smile is more genuine. More down to earth. More real. . .even with the wig :)

I just finished taking a flash photography course, so I'm a little sensitive as well to the flash causing some blown out places in her hair, but I still think its a nice portrait.

Oh, and the main thing I learned in the flash photography course: That no matter what you do -- it's a matter of trial and error and you will get different effects every time, and probably will have to edit your photo alot anyway :) But I did learn how to lower the settings in my flash so that I don't get quite so much of a blast when I don't need it :)

I like the portrait and you've captured a nice smile. The light from the flash seems a bit harsh, but overall it turned out well.

Marilyn Monroe look-a-likey? Its a nice portrait and whilst I'm fine with the small blown cheek/nose highlights the blown out 'wig' is not quite right (she does seem pleased to meet though!)
