Black pepper, close up. Looks like a planet - except for the shallow DOF.

Btw: the lens flare is real :) I thought about adding an artificial sun to make it really sci-fi, but... no.

I'm sorry I didn't have much time for post-processing, and I'll add some more comments later...

Setup: Pepper grain on needle, black background, flash from back left. I again used my 50mm f/1.8 reversed on top of the 55-200 zoom, this time zoomed out a bit. Removed the needle in post processing, and added more black to the left (the pepper was originally in the center of the image).

The lens-on-lens thing gave ugly "flares", so I couldnt shoot as straight into the flash as a wanted..

I really like the lighting and I was surprised to read it was pepper!

Looks like a raisin to me but I'll take your word for it being black pepper. The details are crisp.

I really like your creative idea. Try an f22 and more of your tiny planet will be in focus. I agree with the other comments about adding some stars around it. That would be really neat on top of something that is already neat.

Nice shot - what was your setup exactly? Just the lens itself?

Nice macro - you are right it does look like a planet. Add an artificial solar system around it and have some fun.

Excellent detail and focus. Wish this was taking up a much more significant portion of the crop. I think your idea for an artificial sunflare or even stars would be cool!
