To continue me "theme" that started with the sugar crystals on day 1, I here present a very close macro of some salt mountains. I prepared this by letting a plate with very salt water dry over night, which created strange hollow crystal structures.

Shot with the 50 mm reversed on front of a 55-200 mm zoom at maximum tele.

Yes, that's the downside of this magnification level - it's almost impossible to get a large DOF. I want a larger DOF! One way would be to replace the photons by electrons... Or, possibly scan the depth of the image with a thin line of light. I know that the old-school scientific macro guru Lennart Nilsson sometimes does this. If you want to get some inspiration for fantastic macro - check out his web site //www.lennartnilsson.com.

Dang. What a great idea: you don't have to do the dishes and you get a great photo too.

The salt looks so different from the sugar. It almost looks corrosive. I live on an island and I know corrosion. The detail shows the striations on the facets or Mt peaks. I like the B&W. Are you going to do a whole recipe of ingredients, that could be fun.

This is sooooo cool! I would not have guessed what it was... This is a great idea and the B&W makes this almost lunar. Looks like a crater. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

I not on;y like your theme but also your images. This is great and I love the balance of the DOF against the detail of the salt.....

I'll take your word for it that's it salt :-). Wonderful nice and sharp details with great light and dof. Perhaps it could just a little more contrast, but that's just a minor point here. Don't know anything about reverse mounting yet, but it looks very promising.
