I don't remember where or when I got this spoon but I've had it a long time. It's the only piece with this pattern that I have. I use it every day for my coffee, though I do occasionally wash it. :-)

Shot in the back window before the sun hits it directly. Even broke out the terribly expensive tripod Bear made me buy. Oh, and I actually made a cup of tea for this. Shot a bunch of different angles, then drank the tea. So it was a worthwhile adventure.

So amazingly simple, and soothing - like a nice hot cup of tea.

Hi Deb, just came across this beauty. Love the DOF, love the scene you've set. The b/w toning is perfect for the mood (you can tell I like it ;-)

this is one amazing picture. the dof is perfect, the spoon with the pattern, the composition - all absolutely perfect. i can't imagine anyone giving this a 1/2, that's bizarre!

This is gorgeous. It needs to be a big print in a kitchen or cafe somewhere, seriously. It's just very crisp yet soft, and perfect, and... yeah, I am getting all flustered because I have no words to match how awesome this is, hehe!!

Perhaps it's my own sentiment toward these kinds of things, but I adore this shot!

This is another one that might go with some image grain. You'd keep it off the spoon which is nicely clear, but put it in the open spaces and blurred background. The sepia tone already gives it that old look. Grain would just add to it IMO.

Hey there just going through some challenges and thought this was a good picture. I really think that it should have done much better. The focus on the spoon is very sharp and makes the whole picture stand out. Amazing job on this really. Great work by you as always. Keep it up.

Great shot! It has a wonderful elegance to it. your choice of a shallow DOF works very well because it keeps it from becoming "busy" while still getting the point across. Did you point your pinky finger in the air while drinking the tea? :)

This is sooo pretty! I love the soft lighting. It looks like such a soft and quiet moment - perfect for enjoying tea. It's kind of cool that the silverware pattern almost matches the cup pattern. I love that selective focus too.

This has a very high quality and look/feel to it.
The crop & composition as well as the choice in PP tone are perfect.
Shame this didn't end up on the front page.

This is absolutely lovely. So elegant and serene. Wonderful DOF. It's an absolute CRIME that5 so many "plastic" images finished above this one. And I didn't MAKE you buy the tripod, ma'am. You fell in love with mine...

Loved the tone and mood of this. Was my pick for a ribbon. Beautiful shot all around, technicals and all. The point of focus is perfect with the composition as it leads us into the shot. Like a leading line.

What a beautiful and thoughtful image, Deb. The BW tones are exquisite, as well as your focus on the spoon handle and the little flower on the cup. It really tells a story. Love it. Congrats on your top... um... 30?? Should have been higher.

Deb, very nice shot. Great DoF and PoV.

Lovely patterns in the cup and spoon.

P.S. I notice you only showed us the clean end of the spoon :- P

I didn't look at the silverware challenge while it was in voting, so this is new to me - it's lovely! The composition is really pretty, and the tonal range is superb, really bringing the pattern in the spoon out. I gather you don't normally drink tea - shock, horror!

I had a special spoon growing up; I found it under my mom's car one day, and used it (after washing it, of course) for about 20 years before it got lost in a move.

Nice tones in your shot, and excellent DOF on the handle.

Sedate? Is that the word? Wouldn't have thought it was you until I examined the photo more closely, and even then... The ever so subtle mirroring of flower pattern in the china cup which you managed to include in your narrow DOF: what a treat!

I like this image very much. I would have tried to have more of the design area under focus. Still an amazing use of shallow DOF
