A different train station! This is Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof - Frankfurt's main train station. It's a dead end station, meaning they come in and must go out the same way - like Wiesbaden's. It's not the most efficient way to run a railroad (ha!) but it is what it is.

More processing than I normally do. Converted to B&W using CS3 tools, used a bit of shadows/highlights (shadows only), then did the Fievel's Gothic Glow action. Normally I'm not an actions person, but I kinda liked it on this.

You'll note the original looks underexposed - been playing with the camera on manual a bit more these days, working on trying to get exposure right without the whole blown highlights deal.

I looked at the orginal and just love what you did with this in B&W. I think underexposing allowed you to do all this - I will certainly have to keep this in mind. I do love seeing the train in the background but the first thing that caught my eye was the glowing clock. I think it looks pretty cool.

The exposure is good, I like the natural movement of people - especialy the right bottom- they balance the scene giving a static point and fill the lower part of the imege. About the glow, I liked it at first, but as I continue to see it seems a little bit unnatural for a street shot. Probably a shallow dof could give the same effect more naturaly.

Looks like a scene from a movie. The shot is busy, but quite natural. I like the fact that the train is off to the side and not in the center of the shot.

I see you shot from nixter's point of view from above. ;p. I find manual to be a great way to get the exposure balanced the way I want. The other way I do it is to lock exposure on the sky or somewhere, then adjust exposure compensation to get it where I want it.

This is an interesting shot for sure. I was curious about that train until I read your comment. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I really like the tones here and the business of the shot. I noticed that clock ..would make a cool b/w picture also. ;-)

Another beautiful station shot. Like the feeling of movement in this photo and the tones and geometry of the station are wonderful. Also, I like the reds in the color version.

Every one of your train station shots have been great, and this one is no exception. Your processing rendered beautiful tones, and I like the feeling of movement/hustle from the people.

I LOVE your city and train station photos. I've actually BEEN there before. I was a little girl, but I still have vivid memories of boarding the train at the Frankfurt Train station, and even then I was overwhelmed by how big and striking it looked. You have captured it beautifully and made my memories warm and fuzzy! Thanks!

lol Deb, just peeked in your B&WaW album and notice your up to mid June already!

I do like this shot and feel a little like a voyeur (but enough about that). The people seem almost placed by you to get what you were after and that shadow bottom left is great as is both the B&W conversion and the little bit of dodging on the clockface. Might try that action sometime and just a thought but wonder if you could remove it from the top of the image gradualy so the train and roof are nice and sharp?

Great shot Melethia! i think the b&w works so well in this shot. It reminds me of pawdrix's shot since there is so much going on in the frame that the b&w prevents any one color or element from dominating the whole scene, keeping the focus on the focus on the whole scene. Great perspective and well done PP really make this shot a beauty, well done!

I like how this is composed, a little off to the side as it is. The gothic glow action works well here, I think - it's actually pretty subtle, a nice enhancement.

I like the composition and the perspective. The lines of the train lead you right out of the station.

Not sure if I like the Gothic Glow action. The people being a little fuzzy suggests motion, but the top areas of the shot look a little fuzzy and until I read about the action, I just thought it was camera shake. Not a big deal, just

Your processing to make this a b/w image greatly enhances the original. And you take me back in time to the 10+ years I visited the Frankfurt Buch Messe in October. I ate at the food hall in that station many a time.... and took the night train to Paris from one of those platforms too. Your b/w image fits my reminiscences...

I do like this - there is so much for the eye to take in. And, something about trains always captures the imagination.

That's where the conductor threw me off the train. I hate that place.

I love train stations. There is an air of mystery about them, where are all these people going, and why? Your photo lends itself to this mystery.

The nice tones & softness in the people give this a dreamy quality. Ahhh! I just read your description with the Gothic Glow - so that's what it is. Good job on the exposure. Very interesting shot - it'd be good to see it blown up big to explore all the details.
