When she spoke I heard a mournful sea
lament the awful distance that it spanned,
but my betrothed never sang to me.

Her kisses she presented gratefully
as gladly on the altar she did stand,
but when she spoke I heard a mournful sea.

Her finest days were mine, she did agree,
but the secret lyrics her heart scanned
my betrothed never sang to me.

Her laughter set the dismal twilight free,
night's mystery uncovered by her hand,
but when she spoke I heard a mournful sea.

Her body rose from bed like destiny.
I sat before her, keen to understand,
but my betrothed never sang to me.

I thought sadness finds a melody,
and something vast would break through any band,
yet when she spoke I heard a mournful sea
that my betrothed never sang to me.

I love the words, the somber and fragile melody they carry. Your photograph does them justice and yet leaves a wanting, a longing. Which is quite apropos, yes?

Ahhhh Don glad you made it here. I thought we might see you around this area when this side challenge was announced.
Sheeeesh, you are making me feel like such a loser by not composing my own poetry. But ... I'll let it for you truly talented folks!
Beautiful together your two pieces of art.

Stop making me cry! Seriously, a deeply moving poem, and well-coupled with an image that suggests loss/the lost.

I'm struck by how the shadows and surface ripples add tension to the image, similar to the tension that runs throughout the poem. Very fine work, on all counts.

So many levels of feeling in both the poem and the image - stirring, indeed.

WOW - stunning. This is also reminiscent of one of my favorite melodies

the autumn leaves
drift by my window
the autumn leaves
of read and gold
I feel your lips
and summer kisses
the sunburned hands I used to hold

I won't list the entire song, but man, this is really a great way to bring emotion and words to the heart!!
