This was done in a light tent, lit from the top/behind with a halogen light. With the strong light through the fabric aimed directly at the bud it made it's own vignette.

This is a simple but nice photopgraph. The richness in the values of the red add a lot of contrast to the photo. The line the rose creates is great.
