I was inspired by Montague's terrific "Variable Geometry" entry in the last "Color on Color" challenge. That photo got me thinking about shapes and fruit....

The title is French for "Twisted Orange". :)

Post-processing:
- conversion from RAW
- cropping
- curves
- gradient filter
- cloning out thread and minor imperfections
- unsharp mask
- border
- size for web

----------- Post Challenge

Thanks to all who made comments. For those who are curious, the orange is suspended with two fine threads. The weight of the bottom pulled apart the rings unevenly, and although I tried, I didn't have much luck in evening out the spread of the rings.

I like the idea and the off-centre composition (with gradient to balance). The anal-retentive part of me would like to see even helical spacing on the orange peel, but then again, I don't have to rig the strings and weights to accomplish that... ;-)

The focus on the texture of the outer peel seems just a little soft. Perhaps you need to adjust your sharpening settings in your post-production phase?

I keep coming back to this shot, wondering how did you manage to get it stretched and hanging like that. Looking forward to reading your setup.

I like ohow the orange peel isn't centered and how it's semi floating/ was dropped and how the light focus is on the orange peel.
