| Great idea but I think that I'd like it better if the queen wasn't quite so centred and if the DOF was a bit deeper |

I like the isolated king, and usually a centered subject isn't going to come across that well, but in this case by centering the king it seems stronger (matches your title well this way). The image does feel a little underexposed. A minor tweak with levels or a histogram adjustment would help some. Last thing...the little details...clean the board before shooting (or do so in post-processing when allowed). :-)
