We are now in the Presidential Chalet at the Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Fishing at Mpika. It took us 11 hours driving to get here, but I drove some of the way, until cramps made my eyes go buggy. We stopped at the guest house A-M recommended, but the General Manager of the Railways was staying there, and it was just one house, so we moved on. The chef there told us about this place, and it’s fab. We really are in the Presidential Chalet; he stays here when he’s in Mpika. His picture is on the wall – we wonder if he brought it himself. M and I will sleep in the Presidential Bed. Ooo. The chalet was K38,000 and camping was K10,000 each, so… and it’s raining. The compound has a TV room, a bar, darts, ping pong, and a dining hall. (The Kwacha was K2300 to ₤1.)
