We camped at the Maramba Campsite last night – 4 k north of Victoria Falls. Possibly J’s first night of camping. He wanted to stay in the chalets, but we wouldn’t let him. We were the only people at the site, so had the bar to ourselves. We had a good chat with the bar tender, who was very pleasant, and spoke excellent English. Apparently they start English in grade 1 here. Why can’t they do that it Botswana???

We’ve just had live chickens waved at the car 3 times in quick succession. Presumably to sell. Very surreal.

The camp was lovely, except for many, many mosquitoes. We discovered in the morning that the site was almost ringed by a slow moving river. O. We spent some time spotting birds, and, as we had no idea what they really were, made up names. Spoonbilled lily farter...

So that's what Deb meant about the chickens...should have refreshed this page sooner. :) Very Eden-like, this shot, the branch on the left foretells the Fall.
