The beauty of car shows is that they are well lit because the vendors want people to see and admire their wares. But shooting in auditoriums etc is where the 5D is really a blessing. Even at ISO 1600 the noise is relatively low. But a faster lens than an f/4.0 is certainly in order. The 50mm f/1.4 does the job. f/2.8 lenses, such as the 24-70mm f/2.8, in such circumstances feel slow. Looks like you had fun there.
