Took this last year on a test flight for my work. We were coming in to Moses Lake in Eastern Washington for a touch and go in a brand new 777. I noticed the shadow and couldn't resist. I also noticed something else and have since noticed it on other flights depending on the angle of the sun. There is always a defined "halo" of sorts at the nose of the aircraft's shadow. I have seen it reflect in clouds as well as against the ground. No one on board could explain this, and it only occurs when the aircraft shadows the sun. Maybe "guardian angels"?

Thanks for the info levyj413

Nice shot. The effect you've noticed is called the "Heiligenschein."

Interesting image. Never seen a farmhouse situated right in the middle of a fully irrigated crop. The green is rich. I'm sure there is a scientific explanation for the halo, but I can't explain it without 'research'.
