going through the Badlands, early morning, on the way to Rapid City airport

the whole time I was taking pics, I was talking, saying hi there pretty one, basically cooing ...(s)he flipped the ear in response :)

Andre' is correct - Mule deer. You can tell by the black around the ears and the (not visible) tail. Great detail.

I am not sure but this appears to be a mule deer, I have occasionally have seen them grazing in washouts and naturally shielded areas in small herds, they are bigger and slower, maybe a bit less common than whitetail.
