A 1948 VW bug at the dealership in Wiesbaden. The reflection is from across the street. There are a few more shots of this vintage automobile in the folder, just for fun.

Conversion is via CS3's B&W conversion tool. I don't think there was a lot of other editing, other than a crop and a straighten and some sharpening.

And yeah, would have been a lot better had the car going by been a new Beetle. May have to go sit and wait for that one of these days. :-)

So many wonderful elements here: how do you capture a street in a car? Just like this (that sounded like a joke about popes in a phone booth, but wasn't meant to). I love the new VW going by; things change, including shapes. And the tiles are a perfect, very subtle element here. Wonderful.

Great conversion AND crop, though I miss the reflection of the genuflecting (ok: squatting, crouching) photographer (and of the new beetle!).

I don't know why but my favorit part of this photo is the tires of the VW. the tones in them are delicious.

looks like a vintage VW add, i might not crop so close to the VW on the hub cap but still an excellent photo!

How cool is this? Something stationary reflecting something moving? I have to say that I like the crop on this and the color of the other. The red adds so much more pop. Great perspective - it's not a way that I would think of taking a picture.

These old bugs are simply timeless and the B&W just enhances it. That car going by caught my attention immediately, even if it's not a bug.

You tempt me very much to say, "I like it." But I am trying to see beyond liking and not liking... darn it. A picture within a picture; look closer, look at the surfaces and see. Open ones eyes. Yes, you certainly remind me to do that with this subtle image.

Deb - really nice work on this conversion and edit. I like how the b/w version captures the subtle textures of the paint. I just wish the crop included the entire VW emblem

Like the lines of the car a lot. IMO you would be better off with either a slightly stronger reflection or none at all, but despite this comment I like this a lot.

Oh, I love the old Beetles (almost bought a new shape beetle but saw sense and got my ickle Brabus). I used to sell Beetles and MG's and think the best I owned was the 2002, never found a split screen though :(

I do like the crop you chose here and whilst the reflection is great if the car had been a new shape Beetle it would have been sooo much better.

This looks like a very cool car. The perspective adds interest and makes me want to see the rest of the care. The b&w definitely goes along with the age of the car.

I see you're getting some mixed reviews on this one, but personally, I like it. Rich tones, and the grout lines in the floor add to the interest for me. I do think the reflections are nice.

It's funny that so many people have had experiences with the old bugs. I learned to drive in a brand new 1965 bug that I think my dad paid about $2,000 for. It was a really good car.

Excellent b/w. Great reflection. It doesn't look any different than the car built today. That's cool.

48?? Holy cow. I didn't know they went back that far. I've said a million times that I learned to drive stick shift on a 64. I love the way they drive to this day. Terrific angle and the touch of sepia really adds to the nostalgia of it.

i like the idea alot, but i think it didnt work out in execution, the reflections are kind of there, but not enough to draw attention like that should. the bw conversion looks good, good contrast and decent comp, it just didnt happent the way you saw it i think.

To be truthful, did not like it very much. For me, this picture does not speak very much. I spent two three minutes why you shot it. Your notes say it is because of reflection. But it does not do for me. Sorry.
