I know, I visited the river a week too late for Rivers and Streams ;-) It was below freezing yesterday but one of those crystal clear winter days with a beautiful blue sky, so off I went on a hike. This was taken on the Maryland side of Great Falls, off to one side of the actual "great" falls part. Water was fast and furious so I blew out a bit of the whites.

I decided to keep the shadows on this (you can see me, Holly the IW, and an IW friend over in the corner). Makes it more personal.

Nice framing, didn't notice the shadows at first but actually looks great.

Beautiful treatment of this. It's always hard to be objective though when you try to separate childhood memories from present critical judgement. Naw, it's still really good and I really like that cold, crisp winter light.

It looks cold! Nice idea to leave the shadows in. At first I didn't even notice them, so they don't really take anything away from the photo.

Mary, this is stunning - the colors are to die for. Even in the thumb I was wowed.

That is a pretty shot. I would guess that the fall is making quite a roar. I also like that you kept the shadow in the foreground. It looks like it would be tough walking along the rocky banks with all the brush and trees there. The big limb adds interest to the solid blue of the sky too.

Nice! And I like how the branches frame it. So I guess the Potomac isn't wide all the way along.
